India Expands E-Visa Entry Ports to Boost Tourism
The Indian government has announced the addition of 11 new international ports for foreign nationals holding e-visas. This brings the total number of international ports to 88, spanning 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land ports.
The two newly added airports are Bhopal and Tirupati, which will provide easier access to these cities' significant religious and cultural tourism potential. Tirupati, home to the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world.
The nine newly added land ports are Agartala, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki, Moreh, and Attari Road. These additions will enhance connectivity with Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Pakistan for legitimate international travellers holding e-visas.
The expansion of e-visa entry ports is part of India's broader push to increase international tourist arrivals and simplify the experience for foreign visitors. The country currently processes approximately 95 percent of e-visa applications within 72 hours, making it one of the fastest e-visa systems globally.
