India Poised to Lead Agricultural AI Applications: Microsoft Executive
Microsoft's Vice President of Frontier Tuning and Chief Technology Officer for Agri-Food, Ranveer Chandra, believes India has the potential to become a global leader in agricultural Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications for smallholder farmers worldwide.
Chandra emphasized that while countries such as the United States and China are ahead in foundational AI technologies, India's strongest opportunity lies in adapting existing models to address its specific agricultural needs.
He explained that AI-powered tools could reduce uncertainty faced by farmers when deciding when to plant, harvest or apply agricultural chemicals. Instead of replacing farmers' experience, these technologies could complement their knowledge with timely, data-driven guidance.
