Indian IT Companies Downplay Data Breaches Amid Fears of Commercial Fallout
Indian IT companies have played down recent data breach reports, but cybersecurity experts warn that the commercial consequences may be more significant than initially thought.
A report by cyber intelligence firm Hudson Rock revealed that a hacker claimed to have accessed Azure tenants storing critical employee information, including names, IDs, emails, phone numbers, and addresses. The affected companies include TCS, HCLTech, Hexaware, McDonald's, Kyndryl, and Gap.
TCS, HCLTech, and Hexaware issued statements downplaying the breach, saying that the compromised information was old and limited. However, cybersecurity experts argue that the technical severity of the breaches is less important than the commercial exposure they create.
Sunny Nehra, founder of Secure Your Hacks, confirmed that the hacks did occur, citing inconsistencies in the leaked material with Azure or Entra exports.
