A record number of men of Indian origin have joined the boards of directors at S&P 500 companies in the US, with 16 new appointments this year. The list includes high-profile companies like Walmart, Southwest Airlines, and Western Digital.

The representation of men of Indian origin on Fortune 500 and S&P 500 boards has tripled since 2018, outpacing growth rates for women, Black, and Hispanic directors. Among the 184 men of Indian origin serving on these boards, 77% have operational experience or profit-and-loss management experience.

A significant number of these individuals are current or former CEOs, with two-thirds of new appointees holding this position. Men of Indian origin now lead about a dozen major companies, including Alphabet, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble.
