The cost of data breaches in India reached a record high in 2026, according to an IBM report. The average cost per breach rose by 15.9% to ₹25.5 crore compared to ₹22 crore in 2025.

This significant increase is largely due to the growing number of sophisticated AI-generated malicious attacks, with 26% of all breaches driven by artificial intelligence.

Organizations that have not adopted AI and security automation are bearing a significantly heavier burden, with an average breach cost of ₹31.6 crore compared to those who have integrated these technologies at ₹21.3 crore.
