India's Data Breach Costs Reach New High Amid Rising AI Threats

The average cost of a data breach in India has reached an all-time high of Rs 25.5 crore in 2026, according to IBM's Cost of a Data Breach Report.

This represents a significant increase of 15.9% from the previous year's average breach cost of Rs 22 crore.

The report also found that the average scale of data breaches has increased, with nearly 39,500 records compromised per incident in 2026 compared to 38,200 records in 2025.

AI-generated malicious data breaches accounted for 26% of all incidents, highlighting the growing role of artificial intelligence in making cyberattacks faster and more sophisticated.
