India's average data breach cost has reached a record ₹25.5 crore in 2026, according to IBM's Cost of a Data Breach Report 2026.

This represents a 15.9% year-on-year increase from ₹22 crore in 2025, with organisations compromising an average of 39,500 records per breach.

The report highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in cyberattacks, with 26% of malicious breaches in India being AI-generated.

Organisations that have adopted AI-driven security tools and strong governance were significantly better positioned to fend off cyberattacks, with companies extensively deploying these technologies reporting lower breach costs and faster response times.
