IndiGo Cancels Norse Atlantic Dreamliner Lease Amid Fuel Price Pressures

India's largest airline, IndiGo, has ended its damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The move is a result of soaring jet-fuel prices and currency pressure, which have made it unsustainable for the airline to continue leasing the planes.

The damp lease deal allowed IndiGo to borrow the Dreamliners, along with their pilots, to launch its first intercontinental routes. However, the arrangement was always meant to be temporary, as IndiGo has been working on building its own widebody fleet.

IndiGo will now focus on operating its new Airbus A321XLR narrowbody jets, which offer lower operating costs and are more suitable for the airline's needs. The airline has also placed an order for 60 genuine long-haul aircraft, the Airbus A350-900s, which are expected to arrive in 2027.
