IndiGo Dials Back Navi Mumbai Expansion Amid Network Shift
IndiGo Airlines is making significant changes to its route network at Navi Mumbai International Airport, with several routes set to be suspended or shifted to Mumbai's existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
The changes come just weeks after a major airport expansion and highlight the challenges airlines face in adjusting their networks in response to changing demand and connectivity.
According to reports, IndiGo plans to temporarily suspend services from Navi Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram, Bagdogra, and Kannur as part of its winter 2026 schedule changes. Additionally, flights to destinations including Visakhapatnam, Hindon, and Jabalpur may shift back to the main Mumbai airport.
Despite these changes, IndiGo still expects to maintain a large operation at Navi Mumbai International Airport, with around 325 weekly departures currently planned. The airline had earlier filed plans for over 406 weekly departures across approximately 46 routes, but has since adjusted its schedule in response to changing circumstances.
The emergence of two airports in the Mumbai region is creating a new network challenge for airlines, as passengers may prefer to connect onto long-haul flights from the established airport. IndiGo's decision to adjust its route network highlights the need for airlines to balance their expansion plans with individual route performance and connecting demand.
