IndiGo Flight Turns Back to London After Mid-Air Emergency

An IndiGo flight from London Heathrow bound for New Delhi declared an emergency and returned to its departure airport due to a technical issue, according to reports and flight-tracking data.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, operating as flight 6E4, departed Heathrow on Tuesday evening but turned back after about an hour in the air, reaching around 24,000 feet before transmitting the emergency squawk code 7700.

Squawk 7700 is used to signal a general emergency and alerts air traffic controllers that an aircraft requires priority handling. The flight subsequently returned safely to Heathrow, where it landed.
