Intuitive Surgical Stock Plunges 29%, but Analysts See Upside
Intuitive Surgical's stock has taken a significant hit this year, plummeting roughly 29% in value. While some analysts attribute the decline to legitimate concerns about the company's underlying business, others believe the market is overreacting.
The main reasons behind Intuitive Surgical's slide include slowing procedure growth for its da Vinci surgical robots. In the fourth quarter of 2025, da Vinci procedure volumes rose 17%, but in the latest quarter, that growth rate decreased to 15%. The company projects full-year da Vinci procedure growth of 13.5% to 15.5%.
Increased competition from companies like Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic is also a factor. In addition, the expiration of subsidies for Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plans had a modest adverse impact on Q2 U.S. da Vinci procedure growth, according to CFO Jamie Samath.
