IonQ Breakthrough Sends Quantum Computing Stocks Soaring
Quantum computing stocks surged on Wednesday after IonQ announced a breakthrough in real-time quantum error-correction and a deal to install its technology at Nvidia's Accelerated Quantum Research Center. The company's stock popped as much as 13% before paring, leading a rally in the sector with other peers also seeing significant gains.
The breakthrough, which builds on previous research published in September, marks a major technical milestone for quantum computing, according to IonQ. The technology is sensitive and prone to error, but the company's decoder has successfully validated real-time decoding across hundreds of logical qubits and over millions of logical operations.
IonQ's peers, including Infleqtion, D-Wave Quantum, Quantum Computing Inc, and Rigetti Computing, also saw significant gains on Wednesday, with some stocks rising as much as 7%.
