IonQ Soars on Quantum Breakthrough and Nvidia Partnership
IonQ's stock price surged 4.42% to $42.54 on September 23, driven by a breakthrough in quantum error correction and a partnership with Nvidia. The company announced an end-to-end real-time quantum error correction decoder that runs on a standard CPU, marking a significant milestone in its development of trapped-ion quantum computing technology.
The decoder will be used in conjunction with Nvidia's accelerated quantum research center, which will feature IonQ's Superion 256 system as a niche processing system alongside Nvidia GPU clusters. This collaboration is expected to lead to hybrid developments and large-scale systems for AI use cases that combine both GPU and quantum designs.
Trading volume reached 69.9 million shares, more than double its three-month average of 21.0 million shares. IonQ's stock has grown 294% since going public in 2021, defying the tech downturn seen in other stocks.
