IonQ Stock Soars on Nvidia Partnership for Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing
IonQ's stock price surged in pre-market trading on Wednesday after the company announced it would deploy its Superion 256 system at Nvidia's Accelerated Quantum Research Center. This will be the first on-premises quantum computing deployment at the center, and IonQ will use Nvidia's NVQLink technology to connect its processor with Nvidia's accelerated computing infrastructure.
The partnership between IonQ and Nvidia is part of a research program that aims to integrate quantum processors with AI supercomputing infrastructure. The program will focus on hybrid quantum-classical software and large-scale system prototypes, with potential applications in financial services, materials science, and computational chemistry for drug discovery.
IonQ's Superion 256 system will be installed at Nvidia's center next year, and the company has already tested its real-time quantum error decoder. This milestone is a key step towards building fault-tolerant quantum systems, which IonQ is targeting through its roadmap to 10,000 qubits.
