Apple's highly anticipated iPhone Duo sold out within minutes of its preorder launch on Friday, pushing delivery dates back to January 2027. The foldable iPhone, which starts at Rs 2,99,900 for the 256GB model, saw its availability slip almost instantly after preorders opened at 5:30pm IST on October 16. In India, the 256GB Star White variant now shows a delivery date of January 23, with EMI options starting at Rs 26,574 per month.
The supply crunch isn't limited to India. In the US, all models, regardless of color or storage, now face delivery delays until late January. The iPhone Duo, priced from $1,999 (Rs 2,99,900) to $3,199 (Rs 449,900) for the 2TB version, also saw retail stores run out of first-day pickup stock. Apple described the demand as "extraordinary" and promised to keep accepting orders while working to expedite deliveries.
The iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner display, the largest on any iPhone, with Apple Pencil support and split-screen multitasking. It also includes two 48MP cameras. Analysts expect supply to remain tight, with Counterpoint Research estimating only 6 million units available in the near term against a global iPhone installed base of 1.4 billion.
Despite the supply constraints, Wall Street remains optimistic. Analyst Dan Ives projects around 10 million Duo sales over the next few quarters and up to 25 million in 2027. Apple shares rose 1.8% in pre-market trading on Friday, reflecting investor confidence in the foldable iPhone's long-term potential.
