Israel Ranked Second in Global Cyberattacks, Iran Behind 39% of Threats
Israel has emerged as the world's second-most targeted country for cyberattacks, according to Microsoft's annual cyber defense report. Between July 2025 and June 2026, Israel ranked second globally in observed cyber activity targeting its networks, with only the United States experiencing a higher volume of cyber threat activity.
The primary state-backed threat actor behind these operations is identified as Iran, accounting for 39 percent of all Tehran-linked attacks. Attackers frequently targeted research institutions, critical infrastructure, government entities, and defense supply chains using credential theft and phishing tactics.
To counter these persistent risks, the report stresses the need for advanced identity protection, mandatory multi-factor authentication, and rapid intrusion response.
