Italian Air Force KC-767A Tanker Fleet Surpasses 50,000 Flight Hours

The Italian Air Force has reached a significant milestone with its Boeing KC-767A tanker fleet surpassing 50,000 total flight hours on July 20, 2026. The fleet, operated by the 14th Wing stationed at Pratica di Mare Air Base near Rome, provides essential aerial refueling, strategic transport, and medical evacuation capabilities for national and international security operations.

The KC-767A has played a vital role in supporting joint military operations, NATO defense commitments, and humanitarian disaster relief missions globally. Over recent years, the fleet has demonstrated versatile operational flexibility across diverse global missions, including long-term support for NATO air policing, operations with Task Force Air Kuwait, and participation in the Indo-Pacific Jump exercise in 2024.

The KC-767A operates in three primary flexible cabin configurations: cargo, passenger, and combined layout. Equipped with advanced boom and hose-and-drogue refueling systems, the aircraft refuels both Italian and allied fighters in mid-air to extend mission endurance. The platform also features specialized Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) modules, enabling intensive airborne medical care during bio-containment and emergency rescue missions.
