James Larry Evans, Beloved Teacher and Insurance Professional, Dies at 83

James Larry Evans, an 83-year-old resident of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on September 2, 2026. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on June 26, 1943 and spent most of his life teaching public school and working in insurance. After a long career at State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster, Evans worked at Home Depot in Dawsonville, Georgia until he was over 80.

Evans' love for adventure took him to the Bahamas, where he lived on a boat with his wife Stella. He also enjoyed playing saxophone and golfing, and was known for his love of jazz music. Evans was described as 'a reserved and dignified gentleman and the epitome of class and wit', who loved cracking jokes and keeping people laughing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 20, 2026 at Sweet Dixie Farms in Dahlonega, Georgia to honor James. The event will include a visitation from 1:00 PM until the service hour, and the service will be livestreamed.
