Japanese grocer Hashi Market takes over former Amazon Fresh in Seattle
Hashi Market, a Japanese grocery chain, is set to open its first Seattle store in the Aurora neighborhood, taking over the former Amazon Fresh location. The 35,715-square-foot space at 13025 Aurora Avenue N will offer a variety of groceries, catering services, lifestyle items, and beauty and home essentials. The store will join other tenants in the strip mall, including Planet Fitness, Ulta Beauty, Ross Dress for Less, and Daiso.
This move follows Amazon's decision in January to close all its Fresh and Go stores nationwide, with some locations converting into Whole Foods Market stores. The Aurora Amazon Fresh space is the second to be replaced in just a week, after Starbird Chicken opened in the former West Seattle location. Other former Amazon Fresh spaces remain vacant across the Puget Sound area, including in Seattle’s Central District, Federal Way, and Factoria.
Hashi Market has seen rapid expansion since opening its first U.S. location in New York in 2024. The grocer now operates nine stores and plans to add six more locations across California, Colorado, and Massachusetts, according to The Puget Sound Business Journal.
