Japan's Nikkei Falls as AI Stocks Slide Ahead of Nvidia Earnings
Japan's Nikkei share average fell by 0.7% yesterday as artificial intelligence-related stocks came under pressure ahead of Nvidia's earnings report this week.
The Nikkei closed at 65,528.09 points after a day of trading, with most AI-related stocks experiencing losses. Fujikura dropped 5%, Advantest fell by 3.9%, and SoftBank Group lost 5.3%.
However, Tokyo Electron bucked the trend, rising 1.6%. The broader Topix index gained 0.2% despite the sell-off in AI-related stocks.
The sell-off was not limited to Japan's markets, with AI-related stocks experiencing losses across other Asian markets as well. South Korea's Samsung Electronics fell by 9%, dragging the KOSPI down 3.1%, while China's Alibaba dropped about 10.5%.
