Jefferies' Apple Downgrade Fails to Convince as Data Tells a Different Story

Wall Street's recent downgrade of Apple (AAPL) from Hold to Underperform by Jefferies has been met with skepticism. The firm cited rising memory costs and the reported cancellation of the all-glass iPhone Pro redesign as reasons for the downgrade, but these claims are being disputed.

The data tells a different story. Apple just posted its strongest June quarter ever, with revenue up 16% to $109 billion and EPS of $2.02, marking the 9th consecutive quarter topping estimates. The all-glass iPhone Pro redesign is still on track for 2027, according to a Bloomberg report.

Wall Street consensus remains Moderate Buy with an average target of $329, versus Jefferies' lone Underperform call at $264. Institutions own 66.289% of the float, and recent 13F activity shows Gateway Wealth Partners boosting its stake by 155.4% and Everest Financial adding 21.1%. Prediction markets echo the confidence: Polymarket assigns a 97.6% probability Apple releases the iPhone 18 in 2026.

The bear case is built on shaky ground, with Jefferies ignoring the scoreboard and relying on thin data. Apple's gross margin of 46.91% and operating margin of 31.97% give it more absorption capacity than any hardware peer on the planet.
