Jefferies Slashes Apple Rating Amid Pressure Points
Apple's stock fell by roughly 0.5% on Tuesday after analyst Edison Lee of Jefferies cut his rating to Underperform from Hold and lowered his price target to $264, down from $286. This move comes as Apple faces pressure points in its business, including a rumored iPhone redesign that may have been canceled due to manufacturing issues.
Jefferies notes that while Apple's numbers remain enormous, with a record June-quarter revenue of $109.4 billion and a 16% increase, the company is playing catch-up in the AI race and facing rising memory costs that threaten its margins. Additionally, the premium at which Apple trades, 8.3% above the GF Value estimate of $282.67, leaves less cushion if growth cools.
While Apple's valuation may seem reasonable, Jefferies sees several warning signs for investors, including AI execution and rising memory costs. However, it is worth noting that Apple can lean on premium pricing, services, and its massive installed base to mitigate these pressures.
