Jefferson Coach Marc Cisco Leaves Lasting Legacy at 90
Marc Cisco, a legendary football coach at Jefferson High School, passed away on September 23rd at the age of 90. Cisco coached the team for an impressive 47 years and compiled a record of 241-192. He led the Bears to nine playoff appearances and won the state championship in 1994.
One of Cisco's greatest strengths as a coach was his ability to connect with his players, said John Castiglione, who worked under him for 30 years. 'He knew when to pat a kid on the back and when to kick them in the behind,' Castiglione recalled.
Cisco's legacy extends far beyond his on-field accomplishments. He built a loyal staff of coaches, many of whom were Jefferson graduates, and mentored several players who went on to become coaches themselves. His son Marc (Zeke) even followed in his footsteps at Byron Center, while Jeff Potter worked with him for years before taking over at Ida.
'Coach Cisco was a huge part of who I am today,' said Jason Gendron, a former player and current coach at Gibraltar Carlson. 'He taught me the importance of hard work, discipline, and giving everything you have for the team.'
