Jehovah's Witnesses Acquire Former IBM Campus with Data Center
The Jehovah's Witnesses have purchased a former IBM campus in Orange County, New York. The property, which spans 68 acres and includes a 433,000-square-foot data center, was bought from Kyndryl, IBM's former infrastructure services unit that separated into an independent company in 2021.
The data center has been a focal point of controversy in recent years due to concerns over energy consumption and water usage. New York recently passed a moratorium on building new data centers amid opposition from environmental groups and some localities.
Jehovah's Witnesses spokesman Jason Hohl told Religion News Service that the organization purchased the property to provide additional flexibility for its growing operations, citing its proximity to the group's world headquarters in the Hudson Valley.
