Lufthansa Boeing Diverts to Brazzaville Amid Cabin Smell Emergency

A Lufthansa Boeing 747 flight from Johannesburg to Frankfurt made an emergency landing in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo on August 6. The plane, which had departed O.R. Tambo International Airport at 19:18 local time, declared a general emergency after crew members detected an unidentifiable smell in the cabin.

The flight was cruising over the Democratic Republic of the Congo when the pilots changed course for Brazzaville's Maya-Maya Airport. Flightradar24 data showed the plane using the 7700 transponder code, indicating a general emergency.

Lufthansa confirmed the diversion, stating that the smell occurred in the cabin and was not related to any technical issues. The airline said passengers and crew were safely disembarked at Brazzaville and would be flown on to Frankfurt on a replacement aircraft later that day.
