Jersey Mike's Shares Plunge on Disappointing IPO Debut

JMKE shares tumbled by 6% on their debut day as Jersey Mike's IPO failed to meet expectations. The sandwich chain made its public market debut under the ticker symbol 'JMKE' on July 30, with an initial offering price of $23 per share. However, the stock opened at a lower price of $21 and closed at $21.63.

The company sold 43.5 million shares to raise $1 billion in proceeds, valuing it at $7.3 billion. Jersey Mike's plans to use these funds to pay off debt and fuel its global expansion ambitions, with a goal of reaching 15,000 restaurants worldwide, including 7,500 in the US.

The disappointing start was attributed to a challenging operating environment for restaurants, marked by cash-strapped consumers eating out less frequently. This trend has also affected other major chains like McDonald's (MCD), which have seen their stocks decline by over 10% this year.
