Jets' Dominant Defense Proves Too Much for Packers on Third Down
The New York Jets have been dominating on defense, particularly in third-down situations. Through two weeks, they rank first in the NFL with a stingy opponent conversion rate of just 23.81% on third down.
This statistic is second-best only to the New England Patriots, who boast a 17.4% rate in this area. The Jets' defensive prowess was on full display against the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, limiting them to an 11.1% conversion rate (1-of-9) and forcing six three-and-outs.
Jets cornerback Azareye'h Thomas has been instrumental in these efforts, notching his eighth consecutive game with a pass defensed. His speed and agility allowed him to reach a max of 16.81 mph as he tracked down Packers receiver Christian Watson on third-and-6 late in the first quarter.
Linebacker Andre Cisco also made an impact, delivering a hit on Packers quarterback Jordan Love just 2.5 seconds after the ball was snapped. This well-timed pressure package forced Green Bay to punt for the fifth time in the game.
