Jets Fall Short Against Lions in Week 3
The New York Jets suffered their second consecutive loss, falling to the Detroit Lions 31-24 in Week 3. Despite having momentum on their side, particularly after tying the game 24-24 with just over four minutes remaining, the Jets were unable to maintain a lead throughout the contest.
Head coach Aaron Glenn had something to prove to his former employer, and the team was motivated to show that last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers was a fluke. However, the Lions looked vulnerable after being outgunned by Buffalo in Week 2, creating an opportunity for the Jets to capitalize.
The tight end room proved to be a highlight of the game, with Kenyon Sadiq leading the way. He finished with seven catches for 105 receiving yards and scored his first career touchdown in the second quarter. Fifth-year TE Jeremy Ruckert also had a solid day, finishing with a career-high five receptions and a TD, while Jelani Woods finally woke up with a massive 20-yard catch on the drive that finished with Sadiq's touchdown.
Andre Cisco has turned a page in his Jets career after struggling in his first season. The former Syracuse Orange safety saw an immediate boost in playing time following Minkah Fitzpatrick's groin injury and made the most of his increased opportunities, tallying four tackles and even getting involved in the pass rush by sacking Jared Goff.
The special teams unit remains a huge concern for the Jets. They struggled to stop returns, allowing Jacob Saylors to average 40.5 yards on two kick return attempts. Struggling to stop returns will make it harder for the Jets to win on any given day, and their group is already dealing with injuries piling up across special teams.
