Jets Players Fall Out of Favor After Disappointing Preseason Showing
New York Jets players Malachi Moore and Isaiah Williams saw their stock plummet after a lackluster performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2 of the preseason. Moore, a sophomore safety, struggled to make an impact, allowing both throws in his direction to be completed for 24 yards in 16 coverage reps. He was also playing with the third- and fourth-team defenses, indicating his standing on the roster may be in jeopardy.
Moore's summer has been unimpressive, while teammate Dane Belton consistently flashes, and Andre Cisco thrived last night with an interception and a team-high 94.0 defensive grade at Pro Football Focus. This is Moore's second week in a row on the wrong side of the list, raising questions about his roster spot.
Isaiah Williams' stock also fell after he was surpassed by first-round rookie Omar Cooper Jr. on the depth chart. Williams hauled in three of four targets for 24 yards but fumbled and had a borderline drop. His role on the team is that of a returner, and his expectations as a WR should be tempered.
Arian Smith's preseason has been disastrous, with an illegal block in the back penalty on a punt return and not even getting targeted once offensively. Special teams have been his clearest route to making the team, but Belton and Kene Nwangwu are emerging as contributors in that area.
