Jobs Paid $100k for Paul Rand's Iconic Design
Paul Rand, a renowned graphic designer, was commissioned by Steve Jobs to create NeXT's identity in 1986 for $100,000.
Rand initially hesitated due to his client IBM being a competitor, but Jobs secured its blessing and the assignment proceeded.
Jobs recalled asking for several options, but Rand refused, saying 'No, I will solve your problem for you and you will pay me.' He explained that if Jobs wanted options, he should talk to other people.
Rand's solution was a tilted black cube carrying the company name, which Jobs described as 'a little jewel' that contained the name of the company within it.
