Joe Ranft's Legacy Shines in Heritage Auction
Heritage's The Art of Disney Signature Auction features over 1,300 lots showcasing nearly a century of Disney artistry. However, its emotional centerpiece is the Joe Ranft Family Archive, which chronicles the remarkable career of animation legend Joe Ranft. Posthumously named a Disney Legend in 2006, Ranft was revered for his extraordinary gift for storytelling.
Ranft joined Walt Disney Studios in 1980 and contributed to projects such as The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, and The Rescuers Down Under. He later reunited with director Henry Selick at Skellington Productions, serving as storyboard supervisor on Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach.
The Joe Ranft Family Archive includes over 100 works and personal artifacts from the late Disney Legend. Among its highlights are storyboard drawings attributed to Ranft from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and hand-colored storyboard sequences from Pixar's groundbreaking Toy Story.
