JPMorgan Chase & Co’s private banking division is leveraging artificial intelligence to streamline client onboarding, investment research, and other tasks, aiming to boost adviser productivity. Pablo Garnica, the bank’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMA) head, highlighted that AI enhances client experiences while making advisers more efficient. The technology simplifies complex processes, accelerates access to research, and helps clients navigate the bank’s digital platforms.
Despite the push for AI-driven efficiency, JPMorgan is expanding its private banking staff, contrasting with other firms that are cutting jobs. Garnica anticipates a 10 to 15 percent growth in adviser headcount within private banking in EMEA over the next three to five years. Some wealth management firms, like Citigroup, have also announced plans to hire more advisers as AI increases productivity.
The bank is focusing on growth in continental Europe and the Middle East, while also targeting younger generations as wealth transfers from baby boomers accelerate. Garnica noted that family offices are particularly concerned about geopolitical risks, inflation, and the impact of AI, which could create investment opportunities in sectors like defence, AI-related technologies, and infrastructure.
A UBS Group survey released in May found that 60 percent of family offices planned to adjust their strategic asset allocations within the next 12 months due to geopolitical conflicts, rising debt, and economic uncertainty.
