JPMorgan Chase Nears $1 Trillion Market Capitalization
JPMorgan Chase (JPM) is on the verge of becoming the first bank to reach a $1 trillion market capitalization, according to Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo. Mayo raised his price target for JPM from $375 to $390, implying a more than 7% gain from its recent close.
At $965 billion, JPMorgan is just about 3.5% away from crossing the $1 trillion mark. The bank's shares have risen 21% over the past three months, driven by record net profits and strong trading revenue.
Mayo predicts that JPMorgan could reach a $2 trillion market capitalization in seven to eight years, citing what he calls the 'flywheel effect.' This refers to the bank's ability to earn high returns and reinvest them in its business, producing even more returns. Mayo notes that this growth depends largely on JPMorgan's ability to grow its earnings per share.
While crossing $1 trillion would be a significant milestone for JPMorgan, it also comes with risks. The bank's size draws attention from regulators and politicians, who may impose stricter rules or taxes that could cut into its profits.
