JPMorgan Chase Tops AI Index for Second Year
JPMorgan Chase has once again claimed the top spot in the Evident AI Index, solidifying its position as the world's most AI-advanced bank. The index's top three remains unchanged from 2025, with Capital One and Royal Bank of Canada following closely behind. North American banks dominate the top 10, with CommBank representing Asia Pacific and UBS as the sole European lender.
The Evident AI Index evaluates banks based on public data across four key areas: talent, innovation, leadership, and transparency. Over the past year, AI capabilities advanced nearly three times faster than the average of the previous three years. This acceleration is attributed to banks moving from strategy definition to enterprise-wide deployment of AI, enabling deeper integration into core workflows.
AI is now speeding up and reducing risks in major banking processes. For example, Capital One's AI fraud tool, ProtectID, prevented approximately $150 million in potentially fraudulent auto loan applications in 2025. Across the 50 banks assessed, 1,107 AI use cases have been disclosed since 2021, with many now demonstrating concrete impacts. The top 10 banks account for a quarter of all impact-linked use cases and half of those with direct financial outcomes.
Return on investment (ROI) frameworks are maturing, with the number of banks reporting realized or projected returns increasing from eight to twelve. New entrants include CommBank, Lloyds Banking Group, and TD Bank. While banks continue to add AI talent, the focus is shifting from foundational roles to enablement, with over a quarter of new roles dedicated to this area.
Alexandra Mousavizadeh, co-CEO of Evident, noted, 'This was the year AI in banking went industrial. Banks across the Index are moving faster than at any point since we began measuring, but what separates the leaders is everything they have built around their models, from the data and the plumbing, to the guardrails, and the habit of building something once and scaling it everywhere.'
