JPMorgan Eyes Public Stablecoin Amid Regulatory Shift
JPMorgan Chase is exploring the possibility of launching a public stablecoin separate from its existing JPM Coin. The decision comes as customer demand and regulations evolve.
The GENIUS Act, passed in 2025, created a federal framework for stablecoins but regulators have delayed final rules until late 2026, pushing enforcement into 2027. This delay has given banks time to prepare for the market's shift towards bank-issued stablecoins offering stronger regulatory backing and integration with existing banking systems.
JPMorgan and other major banks are preparing to enter this space, signaling a major shift in digital payments and stablecoin adoption. The BankChain Alliance, formed by 39 state banking associations, aims to build a shared blockchain infrastructure targeting a 2027 launch.
