JPMorgan Pushes for Grid Upgrades Amid Record Demand Growth
JPMorgan Chase & Co. is using New York Climate Week as an opportunity to establish itself as a leader in upgrading the US grid.
The bank's global head of sustainability, Heather Zichal, said that this year's event will be JPMorgan's biggest participation yet, with over 100 clients engaged and a focus on financing grid modernization.
Zichal emphasized that JPMorgan plans to discuss the need for grid upgrades 'every chance we get' during the climate talks, highlighting the importance of addressing the nation's power system as it faces unprecedented demand growth driven by data centers, electric vehicles, and reindustrialization.
JPMorgan has partnered with environmental nonprofit RMI (formerly Rocky Mountain Institute) to create the Great American Grid coalition, which aims to promote reforms and investments in grid modernization. The coalition's report highlights the need for regional and inter-regional transmission expansion, streamlining permitting processes, and promoting demand-side solutions.
