JPMorgan Puts $200 Million on the Line for San Francisco Housing
JPMorgan Chase has agreed to finance $200 million for the Dogpatch Power Station development in San Francisco, marking a significant bet on the city's housing market.
The project, which includes a 342-unit residential building at Block 8 of the power station site, is expected to begin construction in the fall. This move comes after four years of rising interest rates that largely froze apartment development across San Francisco.
JPMorgan's investment is a sign that capital markets underpinning the city's housing industry may be thawing. However, many lenders remain on the sidelines, and the financing gap remains a major problem in the city, where tens of thousands of approved housing units are stalled.
