JPMorgan Taps Operational Expert for HR Chief Amid AI-Driven Transformation
JPMorgan Chase has appointed Mark O'Donovan as its new global head of Human Resources, succeeding Robin Leopold who plans to retire in the first quarter of 2027. O'Donovan, a 30-year company veteran, joins JPMorgan's operating committee and will relocate from London to New York City.
The bank chose an operational executive over a career HR professional due to its ongoing AI-driven workforce transformation. Since last year, operations staff have fallen by 4%, support roles dropped 2%, and operations teams now handle 6% more accounts per employee, changes attributed directly to AI adoption.
JPMorgan's CEO Jamie Dimon has repeatedly connected in-person work to the bank's ability to manage AI adoption effectively. The bank's mandatory five-day return-to-office policy, which took effect in March 2025, will be managed by O'Donovan alongside the AI-transformation agenda.
