JPMorgan Updates Top Stock Picks for October
JPMorgan has updated its list of favorite investment ideas for October, following a mixed performance in September. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.5% and 4.3%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 1.9%. Over the third quarter, the Dow dropped 3%, but the Nasdaq and broad-market index each gained at least 2%.
The bank added five stocks to its overweight-rated list, aligning them with strategies like growth, income, value, or short plays. New additions include American Express, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Liberty Energy.
American Express is highlighted as a value play, despite an 18% year-to-date decline due to concerns about consumer spending and credit rates. Analyst Richard Shane notes that the company remains a strong investment for its high returns and disciplined capital return policies.
Liberty Energy is identified as a growth play, with shares up 52% over the past year. Analyst Arun Jayaram attributes this to the AI boom and a tight power supply situation expected to last until 2030.
Thermo Fisher Scientific is another growth pick, with shares up 25% in the last three months. Analyst Casey Woodring points to the company's strong financial outlook and partnerships, including one with the Mayo Clinic for early disease detection.
