JPMorgan's Aiyengar Steps Up to Global Chair Role Amid M&A Reshuffle
Anu Aiyengar has been at the helm of JPMorgan's global M&A franchise for three years, becoming the only woman to lead such a team at a major Wall Street bank. She took over as sole head in January 2023 after Dirk Albersmeier stepped down, but was promoted to global chair of Investment Banking and M&A on May 13, 2026. In this new role, Aiyengar will focus on supporting client relationships and strategy.
The move is part of a broader reshuffle at JPMorgan, which has also seen Charlie Bouckaert take over as head of global M&A. Bouckaert brings experience from Goldman Sachs, where he spent nearly two decades before joining JPMorgan in 2019. He has co-headed diversified industries investment banking since 2021 and has worked on high-profile deals such as Lhoist's $13.5 billion sale to Martin Marietta.
Aiyengar's departure from day-to-day management marks the end of an era for JPMorgan's M&A team, which had been led by her since 2023. The bank has seen a number of senior dealmakers leave in recent years, including Guillermo Baygual and Marco Caggiano, who joined Citigroup and Morgan Stanley respectively.
