Judge Allows Racial Discrimination Lawsuit Against Top Universities to Proceed

Nan Zhong and his son Stanley are celebrating a major court victory in their civil rights lawsuit against several elite universities, including the University of Washington. The lawsuit alleges racial discrimination in college admissions, specifically that Asian-American applicants are disadvantaged by the universities' policies.

The federal judge granted the university defendants' motion to dismiss some claims but denied it on others, effectively ruling in favor of Nan and Stanley. This means they can now proceed with discovery, requesting internal documents, communications, and admissions data from the University of Washington.

Stanley Zhong, a 21-year-old software engineer at Google, was rejected by 16 colleges despite having an elite academic record, including a near-perfect SAT score and high GPA. He was hired by Google shortly after his college rejections and now works as a full-time software engineer in a position that typically requires a Ph.D. or equivalent experience.

Nan Zhong stated that their case is not just about his son's experiences but about addressing the systemic issue of anti-Asian bias in college admissions. Since taking their battle public, they have received communication from dozens of Asian-American families sharing similar stories of highly qualified students being rejected from top universities.
