Kenya Airways Close to Securing Boeing 777 Freighter on Long-Term Lease

Kenya Airways is close to securing a Boeing 777 freighter on a long-term lease, according to its chief executive George Kamal. The airline aims to capture 40% of the cargo market and has been reassessing its capacity deals due to the recent fuel price spike.

The company currently operates four converted freighters, two 737-800P2Fs and two 737-300P2Fs, providing around 70 tonnes of cargo capacity. It had previously planned to introduce Boeing 767 freighters but now aims to operate three 777Fs by the end of the decade.

Kamal revealed that discussions for the 777 freighter are nearly complete, although he did not specify the source or exact model. The new aircraft would have around 100 tonnes of capacity and is seen as a strong performer for the airline.
