Kenya Airways Expands Fleet with Four New Boeing Leases
Kenya Airways is expanding its fleet by leasing four new Boeing aircraft to combat severe capacity constraints and boost cargo operations. The airline has secured lease agreements for a massive Boeing 777-300ER, a Boeing 767, and two narrow-body Boeing 737s.
The incoming metal represents a vital lifeline for Kenya Airways, which has been operating at maximum payload due to global engine shortages and maintenance backlogs that grounded several of its existing Dreamliners.
The return of the Boeing 777-300ER is particularly significant, as it will help alleviate passenger backlog on the European sector and provide necessary density to maximize slot efficiency at one of the world's most congested airports, London Heathrow.
Kenya Airways aims to expand its fleet to approximately 60 aircraft by 2027, which is deemed the minimum viable threshold required to effectively compete with heavily subsidized Gulf carriers and dominant continental rivals.
