Kindle Scribe Colorsoft Falls Short of Expectations

Sharmishta Sarkar, TechRadar's APAC Managing Editor, recently had an opportunity to review Amazon's Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. The device features E Ink Kaleido 3 screen technology and was released in October 2025. However, after using it for two months alongside the 3rd-generation Kindle Scribe, she found that the monochrome version outshines its color counterpart.

The main issue with the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is its limitations due to the RGB layer integrated into the display. This affects every single color ereader and digital notebook, making colors appear dull unless the frontlight brightness is increased. However, this comes at the cost of reduced battery life, Sarkar found that the device needed to be charged every 2-3 days with average use.

Comparing it to the Boox Note Air5C, another color E Ink display device, Sarkar notes that its monochrome sibling is the better performer. The Kindle Scribe (2025) review praises it as arguably the best digital notebook Amazon has made to date. If you're looking for a note-taking Kindle, Sarkar recommends opting for the 2024 release of the Kindle Scribe or exploring other E Ink writing tablets like the reMarkable Paper Pure or Boox Go 10.3 series.
