Kingdom Hearts Anime Series Announced at D23 by Disney Entertainment

The Kingdom Hearts anime series has been announced at D23 by Disney Entertainment. The news was revealed during the showcase event held at the Honda Center in Anaheim on Friday, August 15, 2026. This marks a significant expansion of the popular video game franchise into new media.

According to Disney, the original anime series will be developed in partnership with Square Enix, the company behind the Kingdom Hearts games. The show will feature a brand-new story that expands on the universe of Kingdom Hearts while celebrating its beloved characters.

The announcement was made during D23's biennial exposition, where Disney previews upcoming movies, shows, experiences, and products. Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, expressed excitement about bringing the world of Kingdom Hearts to life in a new way, stating, 'There's something really exciting about taking a world fans have spent years exploring through the games and bringing it to life in a completely new way.'

Kingdom Hearts is a series of role-playing games created by Disney and Square Enix. The first game was released in 2002 for Sony's PlayStation 2, and the series has shipped over 39 million units worldwide.
