Korean Air Finalizes $44.8 Billion Purchase of Boeing Aircraft and Engines
Korean Air has finalized its $44.8 billion purchase plan announced last August, signing contracts with Boeing and GE Aerospace to buy aircraft and jet engines.
The carrier bought 103 next-generation fuel-efficient aircraft from Boeing for $36.2 billion, including 20 777-9s, 25 787-10s, 50 737-10s, and eight 777-8F freighters.
Korean Air also signed a contract with GE Aerospace to buy 21 spare aircraft engines for $8.6 billion and a 15-year engine maintenance service agreement covering 28 aircraft.
The investment is intended to prepare for medium- to long-term growth following the integration with Asiana Airlines while pre-emptively addressing global aircraft delivery delays that have persisted since the pandemic.
