Korean Air Locks in $36.2 Billion Boeing Deal, Strengthens US Ties
Korean Air has finalized its massive U.S. investment plan worth 60 trillion won, announced in August last year during the South Korea-U.S. summit. The airline has signed a final purchase agreement with Boeing for 103 aircraft, including 20 777-9s, 25 787-10s, 50 737-10s, and 8 777-8F freighters.
The total value of the deal is $36.2 billion (approximately 49.4 trillion won), which represents a decrease of about 7 trillion won compared to the initial announcement. Korean Air also signed contracts with GE Aerospace and CFM International worth approximately $8.6 billion for spare aircraft engines and engine maintenance services.
The airline plans to modernize its fleet by introducing next-generation, high-efficiency aircraft, which will enhance operational efficiency, expand transport capacity, and improve customer service. Chairman Cho Won-tae stated that the contract is 'a milestone of trust' between South Korea and the United States, further strengthening their economic and technology alliance.
