Korean Air Orders 103 Boeing Aircraft with Deliveries Decade Away
Korean Air has placed an enormous order for 103 Boeing aircraft, which will not arrive until the early 2030s. The airline's long-term fleet renewal strategy is underway, and deliveries of the new planes are scheduled to begin in a decade. This delay is intentional, as Korean Air aims to modernize its fleet while minimizing the impact of industry-wide delivery delays.
The latest order includes 50 Boeing 737 Max 10s, 25 787-10s, 20 777-9s, and eight 777-8 Freighters. This adds to the airline's existing backlog, which now totals 6,755 unfilled commercial aircraft orders. Of these, 4,813 are for Boeing 737s and 701 are for 777s.
Korean Air is making educated guesses about its future needs, planning ahead for the next decade. The airline has identified which aircraft to order and how they will be used in its network, but the industry's uncertainty poses a challenge for airlines like Korean Air that must plan years in advance.
