Korean Air Orders Eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters in Fleet Modernization Push
Korean Air has finalized its order for eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters as part of a wider agreement to purchase 103 aircraft from the US manufacturer. This is Korean Air's first order for the yet-to-enter-service production freighter, and it marks a significant milestone in the airline's fleet modernization strategy.
The 777-8F will be the world's largest and most capable twin-engine freighter, offering improved payload capacity and reduced operating costs. According to Boeing, the aircraft will provide 30% better fuel efficiency and emissions compared to existing large freighters. Korean Air's order is part of a broader effort to modernize its fleet ahead of the integration of Asiana Airlines.
Korean Air Chairman and CEO Walter Cho stated that acquiring next-generation aircraft is central to the airline's fleet modernization strategy, which will support its future network as a merged carrier. The agreement also underscores the strength of the US-Republic of Korea industrial alliance, with Boeing describing it as a tangible outcome of bilateral trade negotiations.
