Korean Air Places Largest Ever Order for 103 Boeing Jets
Korean Air has finalized its largest-ever aircraft order, committing to 103 Boeing planes. The deal, worth $36.2 billion, covers a mix of passenger and freighter jets, including 50 737-10s, 20 777-9s, 25 787-10s, and eight 777-8 Freighters. Deliveries are set to start in the late 2030s as part of Korean Air's fleet renewal program.
The order is significant for Boeing as it combines two aircraft types that have yet to enter commercial service: the 737-10 and the 777-9, which is part of the delayed 777X program. The eight 777-8 Freighters will also give Korean Air a next-generation freighter option, alongside its existing Airbus A350F orders.
Korean Air's Chairman and CEO, Walter Cho, attended the signing ceremony in Seoul on September 15, along with Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope and CFM International CEO Gaël Méheust. The agreement also includes contracts for 21 spare engines and long-term engine maintenance services from GE Aerospace and CFM International.
The finalized package has a total value of approximately $44.8 billion, including the aircraft purchase price and engine maintenance agreements.
